Baby’s movements in the uterus explained in detail

Share

It is natural that pregnant women are much concerned about baby’s movements. One may be worrying whether her baby is moving normal whereas the other may be thinking that her baby is moving like a future gymnast. The important matter in this situation is to understand what movement can be considered as normal or what has to be considered as abnormal which warrants consultation with your health care provider or a physician in clinic gynecology.

Understanding pregnancy

Quickening refers to the first movement of a baby in the uterus which is recognized by its mother for the first time. The mother may feel it as the random fluttering of the wings of butterflies inside the womb of the mother. Quickening normally occurs anytime within the gestation period of 16 and 22 weeks. A mother who has earlier become pregnant will be able to recognize it much earlier than a mother who becomes pregnant for the first time. If a woman is not able to feel quickening even after the completion of 24 weeks of gestation then it has to be brought to the notice of the physician or the health care provider immediately.

Most gynecologists ask their patient to count the number of movements felt by them after 24 weeks of gestation. After 28 weeks a normal baby is expected to show at least six movements in any one hour dutsyion of a day. It does not mean that the baby should be moving six times per hour. It simply means that the baby should have at least one hour during a day where the number of movement is six. If the baby stops movements altogether then it can be considered as sign of distress felt by the baby. It might be caught tangled inside the cord or there can be scarcity of amniotic fluid. These two complications can become serious also. If you feel that the baby’s movement is less, then it is better to drink some juice and take rest by lying on your left side.

Clinic gynecology

Every child is found to have its own personality which starts showing in womb itself. It is often found that pregnant mothers often complain that their present child in the womb is less active than the previous one. Sometimes they may also tell that their friend’s baby is moving nonstop while their baby only wiggles. For such persons the only answer is to count the movements and if one active hour is found in 24 hours that is enough.

The perception of a mom about her baby’s movement can be depended upon a number of factors. Location of the placenta is one among them. Placenta situated in front of the uterus can act as pillow between the mother and the baby making it difficult to feel the movements. This can also be the reason for the mother to feel that her baby moved earlier or faster during her previous pregnancy.

Similarly the body weight of the mother can also affect the perception about the movement of the baby inside the uterus. Heavy weight persons can have an extra padding in the front of the uterus making it difficult to feel the movement of the baby. There are some cases where the mother was obese and had her placenta in the front and could not feel the movement of her child throughout her pregnancy. For such patients weekly heartbeat tests will be enough to measure and ascertain the healthy growth of the baby inside the womb.

If a rhythmic movement occurs every couple of seconds it can be that the baby is hiccupping. Though it may be disconcerting, there is nothing to worry as it is normal in the healthy development of a baby in the uterus. Another important movement issue, which pregnant mothers are worried about it that the baby was active in the morning for the past days and is now active in the night. There is nothing to worry about it as baby has to have an active hour at least once in a day irrespective of the time.

As the baby grows he may find it difficult to accommodate himself in the small area available in the uterus. So the decrease of movements you may notice as the baby grows can be due to this reason. At some point of time during the third trimester the joyful flutters you noticed in the early months of pregnancy can turn out to be most painful beating.  This may bring tears in your eyes. But there is nothing to do to ease the pain as the movements are natural in the growth of the baby in the uterus.

Last but not the least important is the duty of every mother to bring the child in her womb to life without visiting family planning abortion clinic washington for minor reasons like increase in number of children or controlling birth till the achievement of financial instability.
