Many people who are wearing hair extensions asked how to wash these properly. Well, washing hair extensions isn’t a hard task, yet it’s essential to understand the ways to do it correctly to make the hair extensions last longer.

Brushed Hair Extensions First Before Washing Them

First and foremost, you’ll have to brush your hair in a thorough manner before washing with the use of the hair extension brush. If you haven’t worn hair extensions before, you might not have to brush them before you wash. However, it’s an important part of the procedure. The idea behind it is to make your hair easy to brush as possible when you’re out of the shower and getting rid of any tangles beforehand will help with it immensely.

Apply Shampoo When Washing

Now that you’ve already brushed the hair extensions and get rid of any knots, it is essential that the water flow in the direction in which your hair grows. Never wash your hair over the head and with head flipped upside down as it can encourage tangling and would prevent you from getting rid of the product from your hair.

When applying shampoo, you can do it like with what you do with your natural hair. When your hair is wet, apply hair extension shampoo. As you have more hair than you’re used to, you might have to use more shampoo that you’d normally for complete coverage. Spread the shampoo and gently massage the shampoo into the hair extensions’ scalp.

Once you’re done spreading the shampoo, it’s now time to rinse it as normal. With water running down your back, take some time rinsing the shampoo out of hair extensions. As you’re likely to have used more products and have more hair, ensure that you spend extra time on the process of rinsing because it is required. The common cause of itching, whenever you are wearing hair extensions, is because of conditioner and shampoo remaining in your hair after inadequate rinsing.

Apply Conditioner

It is also important to apply conditioner after you have shampooed your hair extensions. Leave the conditioner for several minutes before you rinse to let it soak in. Then, rinse the conditioner and squeeze off excess water.

Hair extensions must be washed only for two to three times per week. Just follow those steps mentioned above for you to do it properly. If you have clip in hair extensions, the steps may vary a bit.
